ACTIVE 20-30 FOUNDATION - YOUR DONATIONS WILL HELP HAITI
Esteemed Members of Active 20-30,

As many of you are aware, a tremendous tragedy struck our neighboring country of Haiti earlier this week. Here is a report from our Past National President Jennifer Norman who currently lives in the Dominican Republic about 6 hours from Port Au Prince:

The reports we have coming in are not good. Take 911 and multiply it by 10,000 and you will have the amount of devastation that has happened. Missing family members, deceased men, women, and children in the street, no hospitals, 800 doctors with Doctors without Borders are missing, UN headquarters has collapsed and the Presidential Palace is destroyed. There is no fire department, there are no hospitals, no grocery stores, barely a police department, no construction equipment (being donated at this moment), etc. People are digging by hand to find survivors. To call this situation bad is an understatement. I don't think our world has known such devastation. The Active 20-30 clubs have started a drive for basic necessities. Mostly money is needed in which to buy supplies here in the DR and will be driven to Haiti.

Redding #143 - BasketBall Fun Day
Redding
#143 received a very generous donation of almost 300 basketball hoops from a local inventor.  Since receiving this gracious donation. we have formed a committee to distribute these hoops to local needy children, and organizations that benefit local special needs children.  We have donated hoops to several local organizations including, Enterprise Pop Warner Football League, Anderson Pop Warner Football League, Child Abuse Prevention Council, Wings of Angels, Shasta Women's Refuge, Riverfront Playhouse, Hayfork School District, Anderson Street Fair, Redding Rancheria, and the CH2M Hill Rising Stars Gala.  We have also shared the wealth a bit with neighboring clubs, 15 hoops to the Chico Club, and 15 to the Medford Club.  Even though we have distributed all of these, we still had quite a few hoops.

So on October 4th, we hosted an event at Alta Mesa Park, B-Ball Fun Day.  The day was very successful, we had shooting drills, passing drills, and conditioning drills for all the children that attended, as well as BBQ'd hot dogs and juice.  The Varsity Basketball team from Redding Christian High School came out and helped by sharing their knowledge of basketball with the children.  By the end of the day we had about 60 kids participate, all of which took a shiny new basketball hoop home.  All the kids were very excited and grateful, in fact when we left the park, one of the children already had the hoop up and was playing ball.  That's what it's all about.

Special thanks to the Redding B-Ball Fun Day Committee.

Cheers!
