With approximately 1/2 the Active Clubs reporting, 1,683 children were taken shopping for essential school supplies, new clothing and shoes made possible by $200,000 in donations. The donations include money raised by Active Clubs, discounts provided by partner stores and other sponsors obtained by individual clubs. Special thanks to Wal-Mart, Target and Kohl's, where the shopping sprees were held.
If your club has not yet reported its national project results, please contact National Project Chair Samantha Vance at mnsunshine651@hotmail.com.
The Active 20-30 Children’s Shopping Spree, the national project of Active 20-30 US & Canada, is a back-to-school or holiday shopping spree with local children in need. Members of each club, along with local sports figures, celebrities, firemen and police officers, pair up with kids for a memorable shopping spree. Although each local club puts their own spin on the event, all kids are given at least $100 each to spend on new clothes, shoes and personal items as part of this event. Kids are also presented with school supplies and book bags to properly prepare them for going back to school. Often, these are the first new, properly fitting items the child will own.
Each year Active 20-30 clubs provide approximately 3,000 kids with nearly half a million dollars worth of basic necessities to excel in school. The benefits to these kids are immeasurable on their academic performance and self esteem. Watch a slide show about the National Project. (QuickTime movie - takes a little while to load).
The Active 20-30 Children’s Shopping Spree would not be possible without the fundraising projects the clubs do throughout the year. More so, it wouldn’t be possible without the community partners who give generously to the local clubs each year through discounts, store credit and the donation of hard goods.
If your business is interested in sponsoring a child, a local club’s Children’s Shopping Spree experience or becoming a national partner, please contact the national office at 916-447-3217.
