2009-2010 Region 4 News
National Director Region 4
Danny Miller, Auburn #19 wolfgong@aol.com

July 2010

I would first like to thank all the clubs in Region 4 for an amazing year. Although I was not able to attend meetings or events for all the clubs in the region I thoroughly enjoyed those I was able to.  I would also like to thank the National Board and Evan for what has been the most exciting and fulfilling term in my 16 years of Active 20-30.

Region 4 has seen a tough year.  Most of the clubs are close to the minimum membership requirements and some struggling to fund projects.  Although times are lean we have had some outstanding events.

·         Carson Valley celebrated the 100th annual Carson Valley Days.
·         Hangtown had another successful Taco Hell and opened a new playground for the Placerville community.
·         Auburn saw some amazing support from the other 20-30 clubs with a massive amount of donations for the victims of the 49 Fire and the Auburn Brewfest is growing.
·         Folsom held their second annual Spikes 4 Bikes Volley Ball tournament and estimate around 340 hours of volunteer work.
·          Reno held their second poker tournament and has a Softball tournament set for August 14-15 and needs help with teams.
·         Carson City built a play area structure cover for a family that adopts and fosters special need kids.
·         Gold Rush held a very successful 3rd annual fashion show and has been holding car washes with other local children’s organizations through the summer months.
·         Sierra Nevada hosted an amazing Nevada clubs dinner and had great turn out at the Pub Crawl.

The Region 4 area has also seen some interest in new clubs but nothing solid, this is something I plan on assisting the new director with and help grow the region stronger.

April 2010

Although it’s been a rough year for Region 4 we are hanging in and actually seeing a good amount of growth.  Every club in the region is seeing prospective at meetings and events with new members joining.

The clubs in region 4 have a lot of great events planed for 2010.

  • Sierra Nevada did a great job hosting the Nevada clubs dinner which was a great success seeing representation from every club in the region and quite a few form others as well.  The dinner raised over $700 in fines for the family of Billy Cox.
  • Carson Valley will be hosting the 100th annual Carson Valley days June 10 – 13th.
  • Hangtown is holding a wood bat softball tournament May 22nd, Taco Hell June 17-20th, Western Nights will return in August and the Swing for Children softball tournament will be in September.
  • Folsom will be hosting their third annual Spikes 4 Bikes Volley Ball tournament in September and their annual Hallo’Wine party.  Along with keeping very active in the community, Folsom is also bringing in a good amount of money through a snack bar fundraiser at Aero Jet.
  • Auburn has some great events planned for the next few months.  May 16 is the Save our Fire Truck Chili Cook Off invitational, and June 5th will see beverage sales at the Horses for Healing Horse show and the Second Annual Auburn Brewfest is June 12th.
  • Reno is seeing growth with 7 prospective members at their meeting. They will be holding a membership recruitment night on April 30th and are planning another Kardz 4 Kids poker tournament and a Softball tournament for later this year.
  • Gold Rush had great success with their 3rd annual Fashion Show netting close to a $1000 more than last year.  Gold Rush is also partnering with local kids groups and holding car washes during the summer months.
  • Carson City is planning a membership drive for April 24th and have an upcoming hands on event of building a cover for a play structure for their adopted family.
Although we may be the smallest region we are staying very active.

SEPTEMBER 2009

Auburn 49 Fire On August 30th a devastating fire struck the North Auburn area between Quartz Dr and Dry Creek Rd. This fire burned over 300 acres and completely destroyed over 60 houses and businesses in just a few hours. Many of Auburn 20-30 club’s friends and family have been directly affected by this disaster. Most of these residents barely made it out of their homes with the clothes on their backs.  Auburn 20-30 is asking for your help in the rebuilding effort. The donation collection and distribution sight at 3770 Richardson Drive in Auburn is now a place for victims of the fire and volunteers to register for assistance.

At this time donations of food, clothing and household supplies are no longer being accepted at Richardson site. The Red Cross is asking those with items to donate to please come to the Richardson Dr. site and a family that is in need will be assigned to you.  Or please hold on to your items and contact Auburn 20-30 and we will find a way to collect and distribute the items to those in need.

To make a monetary donation to the Auburn 20-30 49 Fire Relief Fund please go to
www.auburn2030.com and click the Donate button at the bottom of the home page.  Donations received will be used to purchase gift cards and distributed to the affected families.
