Hello Region 2:

Saturday, October 25, 2008 will be the fall Region 2 meeting!  The meeting will be held from 10-2 at the Napa County Expo in Napa, California.  Our gracious hosts will be the Napa Club, which will be hosting the Napa Halloween Extravaganza that evening at the Napa Valley Expo.  Click the link for the brochure for the Halloween party, as well as hotel information for local hotels around the Expo.  Please book your hotels as soon as possible as there is a large event occurring in Napa over that weekend.

Also, region 2 club presidents, please confirm to me your attendance.  I would like to draft an agenda and include any information, announcements and other items related to your club in the agenda.  You can email me if you would like to be on the agenda at rockusc@jps.net.  There will be an agenda sent out later this week for the meeting.  Lunch will also be served at the meeting.

The Halloween Extravaganza will be held that evening from 7-Midnight at the Expo.  Tickets are $50 for Active 20-30 members.  Tickets for non-members are $55 in advance or $60 at the door.  There will be food, beverages, a casino and the band "Pop Rocks, along with DJ Jake Lake will be entertaining you.  Wear your Halloween costume and come have a great time.  There is contact information on the attachment for ticket information.

On Sunday morning, October 26, we will head over to a few wineries for some wine tasting before going home.

Hope to see everyone on the 25th.

September 2008

Greetings to everyone in Region 2.  My name is Mike Rockenstein and I was given the honor of being elected as your new region 2 director for the 2008-09 year.  I am excited by the opportunity to meet the clubs within region 2.  My goals for the year are (1) build unity with the clubs in the region by encouraging the clubs to attend each other’s major events; (2) provide periodic updates on local, national and international events; (3) visit the clubs and provide a national presence at your events; and (4) be a leader who is open to listen and work with one another in a collaborative manner.

I am currently the Immediate Past President of the Sacramento No.1 club.  As president, I had the opportunity to work with a strong board of directors as well as a strong membership.  Part of my learning as president of the #1 club that I will strive to apply as region 2 director is working collaboratively and openly with everyone to achieve positive results for the organization.  This learning on the national level will involve attending not just the major events, but also the general and / or board meetings of the clubs in the region.  This is a precedent started by Evan Hershey and Frank Cockrell.  These meetings will provide me with the opportunity to see how the clubs operates, not just on a social perspective, but also from a business and benevolent perspective.  I want to be able to have each club transfer its knowledge to other clubs for the purpose of achieving positive successes. I hope to reach out to the clubs very soon to schedule a visit and am looking forward to it. The fall Region 2 meeting is scheduled for October 25, 2008 in Napa, California.  The time for the meeting will be 9-2 PM.  Lunch will be served.  Following the region 2 meeting, the Napa club will be hosting its annual “Halloween Extravaganza.”  This year’s theme is “VIP Vegas” featuring the band “Pop Rocks.”  The event will be held at the Napa Fairgrounds.  Tickets are $55 in advance or $60 at the door.  For more information, contact Danielle Gularte, Napa Club President.  More information will be forthcoming on the region 2 meeting. Here are some upcoming events in region 2:
  • Greater Sacramento #1032 Monte Carlo – The Greater Sacramento #1032 club will be hosting its annual Monte Carlo night, “Casino Royale,” on October 11, 2008 from 7:30 PM – 11:30 PM at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in Sacramento.  Tickets are $35 for Active 20-30 members, $40 in advance for guests or $50 at the door.  This is always a fun event and this year will be no exception.  Music will be provided by the Funk Junkies and there will also be a silent auction and raffle.  Additionally, you can sign up to be a VIP dealer!  Contact Jennifer Snodgrass at (916) 203-0322 or email at jsnodgrass@sievinglawfirm.com for more information.

  • Sacramento No.1 club will be hosting its annual Special Kids Family Picnic on October 4, 2008 at Fairytale Town in Sacramento.  This special event is geared toward special needs children and their families in the Sacramento area.  The club works with organization such as Warmline Family Resource Center to host the event.  Food, drink, games and music are part of this amazing event the club has hosted for over 25 years.
I will keep everyone updated on additional Region 2 events.  I also challenge each of you to visit a club you have never  visited.  Let’s support all our clubs and attend their events.   Do not forget to start thinking about National Convention 2009 in Cabo.  There will be a website developed and deployed soon with information on the event, as well as an acteva site to pay for the convention.

Please contact me at 916-607-1973 with any questions, comments or feedback.  I appreciate the opportunity to serve this fine organization.

2007-2008 National Director Region 2
Update
Updated March 14

WOW, here it is mid-March already.  Time just flies when you are having fun.  There is a tremendous amount of activity going on in Region 2 right now.  Several of our clubs support Challenger Little League, which is a youth baseball program for developmentally disabled children.  What an awesome event.  If you get the chance, get out and watch one of these games.  I guarantee it will change the way you view the world.  I know that the Ladies of Sacramento #1032 have sponsored Challenger Little League in the past and Santa Rosa # 50 does as well.  If you'd like to learn how to develop a group in your area send me an e-mail.

In an effort to assist individual clubs with their public relations efforts for their projects or just the club in their communities, the national board has made the decision to invest in an online media contact program called Cision.  If you are interested in receiving assistance with getting the word out to your communities about your club or project, look on the National website in the PR section of the library for a press release template to complete.  You will need to sign in as a member before the PR category will appear.  Forward a completed template to Keith Engel, Eugene #920 at keith.engel@lile.net and he will send it out to the media in your area.

The PR Committee is looking for volunteers who would like to assist with the PR efforts; to make a few follow-up phone calls to the media or assist with contacting clubs about their events. Please e-mail Keith if you have any questions or are willing to help.

Coming up, the Region 2 meeting this year is in Santa Rosa on Saturday, March 29th.  Yes, a shameless plug to get you all to attend Santa Rosa's Battle of the Brews on Friday night, March 28th, go to the Regional meeting the next day and then attend the North Bay club's Commedy Night.  We have special pricing, $60.00 gets you into both events.  Home hosting is available.

Also coming up quick is the National Mid-term meeting in Sacramento.  It will be held on Saturday, April 19th and will be followed by the Sacramento #1's Spring Party.  Come and learn how to help your club grow, develop a foundation, or raise more money, then go wash it all down with a few cocktails at the Spring Party.  If you haven't attended one of Sac's Spring Parties, you have missed out!

Napa # 57 sand Redwood Empire #1029 each have Easter Egg Hunt's coming up on March 22.  Join them for a great hands on event.  Napa also has the George Karl annual Kids Free Fishing Derby on the April 20th.  This is one of the best hands on events I have attended.

It's not to early to think about the Chico 2nd annual Margarita Mix-off & Trolley Crawl.  This event sold out fast last year and tickets go on sale early (March 20th I believe).  Get a ticket quick or you might not get one.

There is more coming up later in the year.  Don't forget to sign up for the National convention in Las Vegas in August.  Contact the National office for this.

I can be reached on my cell phone at 707-280-2592. Please don't hesitate to call! me with comments, questions, or concerns.

Yours in service,

Evan L. Hershey
Region 2 Director
