By the end of Saturday an empty field of dirt and grass at T.R. Woods Memorial Park in west Redding gained a shade pavilion, picnic tables, benches and a playground.
And it was all thanks to the Redding Active 20-30 Club, Redding West and East Rotary clubs, the Redding Sunrise Rotary Club, Catalyst of Redding and nearly 250 volunteers.
Much of the Sunset Playground's design came from a group of 20 Redding children who met in March to give Redding West Rotary and Active 20-30 club members a wish list of what they wanted to see in the park.
The park is located off Royal Oaks Drive in the Sunset Terrace neighborhood.
Most of those suggestions were incorporated into the final design, Active 20-30 Club member Cameron Middleton said.
The playground project cost about $65,000 and many offered donations Saturday, Middleton said.
The project is close to meeting its fundraising needs.
Future plans for T.R. Woods Memorial Park include a half-basketball court and a tennis court.

A big thanks to all who participated. When I was reading the history of the town where I grew up, the taxes in the 1800s consisted of having to supply rock for the school building or labor to help build it. It looks like things are reverting back to the 1800s system.
